Election Fever - Come and Get It!

This is the third recent election to gain prominence in U.S. media. The first was on November 2nd, and we all know how that ended. The second was the Ukraine election. Steeped in political intrigue, it resulted in an apparent victory for democracy. The third has now taken place in Iraq and has already been deemed a success by the administration. I guess when a higher percentage of folks show up to vote in Iraq than in the "land of the free", someone really does have something to celebrate. That someone certainly is not American democracy.

I wonder what the lines were like in Baghdad? Maybe in 2008, Congress will decide to declare a 3-day holiday and make everyone walk to the polls. Maybe then we could have an accurate vote count. But there are still those confounded black box voting machines that produce no paper trail. Was Diebold operating in Iraq? If not now, in years to come certainly.

This all brings to mind a quote from Henry Kissinger that GWB would no doubt find amazingly applicable to current circumstances:

There cannot be a crisis next week. My schedule is already full.

Time will tell if this is the acceptable pause before total withdrawal and collapse, or actual representative government.
