Right-Wing Extremists Attack on Temple Mount Indicated

The Temple Mount, claimed by adherents of the Jewish, Christian, and Islamic faiths, has been a site of contention almost ever since the inception of the State of Israel. This coming April 10th is thought to be the date of the planned, or supposed, 10,000 person assault on the Temple Mount. Indications of an attack on the Temple Mount by the right-wing Israeli extremist group Revava has Israeli security and defense forces on a heightened state of alert.

The Temple Mount is believed by Jews to the site of where Solomon's Temple once stood. Messianic Jews believe the construction of the Third Temple on the Temple Mount to be a necessary pre-cursor to the arrival of the promised Messiah. Fundamentalist Christians go along with the show, only they have their own twist -- they believe to the place where the Second Coming will happen.

Most recently, the 2nd Intifada has shown the sort of violence that can be generated by a mere political gesture when a trip to the Temple Mount by Prime Minister Sharon sparked a wave of violence. It should also be noted that the Temple Mount happens to now be the location of the third holiest shrine in Islam, the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

In the ultimate statement of irony expressed by God to date, somehow, someway, the Al-Aqsa Mosque will have to be removed so Orthodox Jews may again begin ritual sacrifice and their Fundamentalist Christians brethern can await the Rapture, or so the stories go.

It goes without saying, violence by any faction of any religion in a place endlessly disputed will do nothing to further anything resembling a peace process in the mid-east.
